✔ Un 17 de Noviembre de 1986 es asesinado en las afueras de Bogotá el Coronel Jaime Ramírez Gómez, director de la unidad Antinarcóticos de la Policía Nacional.
El día del asesinato el Coronel Ramirez volvía de la finca de un amigo en compañía de su esposa Helena Méndez Vargas y sus hijos Javier y Jaime Ramírez Méndez, no llevaba escoltas ya que consideraba que era un sitio seguro debido a que no solía frecuentarlo.
El campero en el que iba Ramírez fue alcanzado por un Renault 18 verde, de placas KF 4491, del que dispararon repetidamente hasta asesinar al Coronel.
Versiones policiales indican que el Cártel de Medellín habría pagado $25.000.000 a Carlos Espinoza, alias "Cuco", perteneciente al frente Ricardo Franco. Esto fue en represalia al desmantelamiento de Tranquilandia, principalmente, y a su vez a la reapertura de la investigación a Pablo Escobar por el asesinato de Rodrigo Lara, que esperaba una nueva declaración del coronel Ramirez en su contra en unos meses.
6 años después, en 1992, tuvo su ascenso póstumo a Brigadier General de la Policía de Colombia.
